Don’t leave your board at home. Cuyutlan, famous for the “Green Wave” from April to May, boasts a wave eleven meters in height. It’s a marvelous spectacle for visitors to admire from the safety of shore and a challenge for the most skilled surfers.
Turtle Sanctuary: The Ecological Turtle Santuary is found just 4.5 km south of the town along the beach. The hours of operation are 8 a.m .to 6 p.m. and the nominal entrance fee is just 20 pesos. This sanctuary is a rehabilitation center for a variety of turtle species that are cared for in large salt-water tanks until the reach a certain size deemed appropriate for release into the open ocean. The sanctuary is also home to a crocodile, an iguana area and several different bird species as well as a launch dock in the mangroves where visitors can take a boat ride and admire the flora and fauna of this beautiful estuary. Salt Museum : This singular museum was created because the economic activity of greatest importance in this locality is the extraction of salt. It is set up in one of the “salineras” or salt mine storages. Here, the visitor will be able to observe a reproduction of the many famous Cuyutlán salt mines.
